My perspective of being a coach
In order to become a well trained and ethical coach, I studied for an OCN accredited Diploma in Coaching over the course of one year. The course combined theory and practical aspects which were fully supported by feedback throughout the process, giving opportunity to improve areas of under-performance. Standards had to be met in all modules and activities in order to gain the qualification.
I practice what I preach. I have a Coach and undertake regular coaching sessions as well as coaching peers for the purpose of gaining performance feedback. These activities, together with regular involvement in a local professional coaching forum mean that I keep my skills up to date.
I provide confidentiality for my clients and decline to coach people who want assistance in an activity that I have reason to believe is immoral, unethical or illegal. In any such cases I am obliged to disclose information (such as I know it) to the appropriate authorities.
Where I coach someone in conjunction with their employer, specific content and any issues encountered are not discussed with the employer. |
