Do you know 7 people or more?
If so, the chances are that you know someone who:
• Gets terribly confused when reading, so probably doesn't bother; or
• Refuses to do anything mathematical, because they "can't"; or
• Has impossible-to-read handwriting; or
• Lacks co-ordination / is really clumsy; or
• Seem to pay poor attention to what is being said to them - their mind off "somewhere else"; or
• Spends so much of their time running around that they never seem to take anything in?; or
• Is a terrible timekeeper (in combination with any of the above)
Maybe they have a combination of these characteristics? It may surprise you, but an estimated 10-15% of our population - that's as many as 1 in every 7 people - experiences some of these experiences every day. For them it is a way of life that hampers their progress and prevents them from being particularly effective at work and unleashing the person they know they can be. These characteristics pose a problem because our society requires that we perform well in all of these areas. If we were to have a society that required all of us to be able to paint masterpieces or to be competent musical composers, many of those without the characteristics above would struggle - how many people do you know who have a well developed ability creative these areas?
